Outstanding learning
As part of last term's Victorians topic, Year 5 have now completed their lino printing project, creating their own wallpaper designs inspired by William Morris' famous work!
In Science, the children made their own wind-powered pulleys and worked well to problem solve as a team, with this experiment showing how pulleys in machines can help us to lift objects.
This week in English, the children have been writing persuasive speeches inspired by our text Lizzie and Belle, and they delivered their speeches confidently to the class while thinking about their tone, pace and eye contact.

Victorian Day
Year 5 pupils stepped back in time this week as a visiting “Victorian teacher” led them through a traditional Victorian school day. The children experienced strict lessons, slate writing, and period manners, giving them a lively insight into what school was like in Victorian times.

Intouniversity
Year 5 went to IntoUniversity last week for a Focus Day! The children worked in teams to conduct experiments, research and design and make their own towns so that people could survive on Saturn, Venus, Neptune and Uranus! They collaborated well and had so much fun on the day.
Art-Grand Canyon
Science - Flower dissection
Year 5 dissected flowers as part of their Science learning - Life Cycles and Reproduction. We dissected lilies, tulips and roses and identified the male and female parts of each plant. This practical task helped us to deepen our understanding of the plant life cycle and how plants reproduce.

Maya Civilisation
Year 5 celebrated their learning about the Maya Civilisation by cooking our own maize tortillas! We loved paying a tribute to the Maya people by recreating a traditional recipe (and it made for a very delicious midday snack!). They also created maya carvings from clay.

Longfield Hall
Year 5 children visited Longfield Hall to watch a performance of The Elves and the Shoemaker. They thoroughly enjoyed the show and had a wonderful time seeing the story brought to life.
