RE:

We have been learning about how different people believe that the world was created. We have talked about how Christians believe that God created the world and everything in it, and we learned last week about how Yoruba people believed that the world was created by  Obatala.

Today we will learn about how Polynesian people believe that the world was created. Polynesian people are people who come from places like Hawaii, Tahiti, Samoa, Tonga, and New Zealand. They believe that lots of parts of the world were made by a demi-god called Maui. I’m sure you have all heard of Maui before. Listen to this song and tell your adult what you think Polynesian people believe that Maui did for the world.

Different Polynesian cultures believe different things about what Maui did, but they all agree that he created land, made fire and caught the sun.

Make a list of how this story is similar to the Christian creation story, and a list of how they are different. There should be at least 3 things on each list. Finally, write 3 questions that have about this story.

Art:

Today we will be learning about an artist called Faith Ringgold.

Faith Ringgold - Painter, Civil Rights Activist, Author - Biography

Faith Ringgold is an artist from the USA who has made lots of famous paintings, sculptures and performances, but she is most well known for her story quilts.

Faith Ringgold | The Sunflower's Quilting Bee at Arles (1997 ...The Artist Dining Room | Faith Ringgold - Event at Guest Projects ...

In these, Faith draws a picture that will tell a story in the middle. She then uses different fabric and materials to add the colour and texture. Can you see on the art above that the border is very different to the middle image? This is because she found different types of fabric from different places to complete her quilts.

Today I would like you to try to make some art inspired by Faith Ringgold's work. There should be a main picture in the middle, with a different border around the edges. I hope that you will be able to find different paper and materials to add to your art, similar to how we make collages at school.

I would love to see your work so please email me a photo!

RE:

We have been learning about the Lord's Prayer for the last month. Today I would like you to draw something that might help you to remember the prayer. This could be one big poster with a picture for the important parts of the prayer, or you could draw a sequence of little pictures to remind you of which line comes next. Here is an example of what someone else has done:

You should have been learning your new spellings all week. Today, ask an adult to test you on how well you have remembered them. I would love to see how well you did so please email me your score!

Art:

This could be a plant or an animal, or it could be a forest or an ocean, or it could be a person. Think carefully about the size of things and if somethings are closer or further away when you are drawing. Here are some examples:
